The Grande Porto concession was awarded to Ascendi Grande Porto, Autoestradas do Grande Porto, SA, in September 2002, through an international public tender. Bypassing the metropolitan area of Porto to the north, simplifying the routines of thousands of travelers and improving access to Porto airport and the port of Leixões. The Concession includes design, construction, financing and operation and maintenance, for a period of 30 years.
